SPL - MODEL 2595

PASSIVE EQUALIZER

The Passeq complements our parametric Equalizers Qure and PQ 2050 by a classic design with passive coil filters. Their unique sound characteristics and musicality form a unit that perfectly fulfills highest demands in sound shaping and coloring.

With its 72 passive filters (36 boost, 36 Cut per channel) the Passeq outperforms any previous machine of its type. Each channel is divided into three cut and three boost bands, each of which offers 12 switchable frequencies. Compared to existing passive EQ concepts, the Passeq represents several different EQs in one unit with its large number of bands and frequencies.

Cut and boost frequencies are not identical; the crossovers mesh perfectly like the gears of the best mechanical watches so that with the high number of frequencies one can dependably command the most elaborate set of response curves that to date any passive EQ has offered.

Each frequency counts
In stark contrast to previous filter designs which featured different windings, but were located together on a common core of a coil, a further special Passeq feature is the unique individual sonic design of each inductive filter through a dedicated coil/condenser/resistor combination, and each inductor is separately adapted for its respective frequency.
The coils for critical vocal frequencies are manufactured specifically for the Passeq. This design assures the widest possible palette of sonic colors a passive EQ could ever offer.
Next to the peak filters (Mid boost & cut, HF boost) the Passeq also provides hi cut, low cut, and low boost as shelving-filters. The HF band offers variable Q adjustments.

Unique 120V Gain Stages
For the output gain amplifiers (necessary as make up gain for inevitable passive filtering signal reductions), Passeq offers SPL’s SUPRA-OPs, which operate on unique 120 Volt rails. The SUPRA-OPs show an extraordinary S/N ratio of 116 dB, +34 dB of headroom, in turn giving dynamic range of ca. 150 dB—figures which clearly distinguish the Passeq's processing in either analog or digital work, placing it in a leading position far in front of any digital or analog competition.

Additional Features
XLR connectors from Neutrik make up the input and outputs. Lundahl input and output transformers perform as balancing stages, perfectly complementing the Passeq's sound characteristics. Switches and regulator elements are from Elma and ALPS (including the ALPS, 41 position, "Big Blue"). The internal fully analog power supply with oversized toroidal transformer offers switchable operation at either 110-120 volts, 60Hz or 220-240 volts, 50Hz.

The Passeq is perfectly qualified as an ultimate sound shaping device and fulfills the highest demands recording, mixing and mastering.
