NOUVEAU PRODUIT

9001 - PREAMP + EQUALIZER

Alongside the acclaimed new 88 range of outboard modules, Neve has chosen Music Messe as the launch for its first ever valve based model, the 9001.

A highly flexible Dual Channel unit, the 9001 can add warmth and depth to sound in a variety of applications. The high quality engineering make it suitable for the most telling of mastering applications, its dedicated mic pre-amps can produce lush recordings, or its series mode valve drive can give a high class sparkling distortion for creative production.

Neve engineering excellence is a must on any new design from the company. The 9001 has transformer coupled signal paths. It uses minimum component count and the shortest possible signal path with valves as the only active devices in the audio chain. The output stage is gently driven to smooth audio peaks, the audio signal is fattened whilst adding gain with extremely low noise.

Each channel is independently switchable between Mic Input, Instrument Input and Line Input and there is also a Series mode. Using the 9001 in Series is like playing with a vintage guitar amp patched across any signal. The Channel A output is connected to Channel B Line In giving extra gain, fattening the sound and adding controlled valve distortion.

Each channel also features a three band passive EQ section. Low, Mid and High are all broadband with push action switched potentiometers to give two frequencies per band. The EQ can be switched in and out of circuit. An optional ADC can be fitted with digital output at all standard frequencies from 44.1kHz to 192kHz and dedicated DSD outputs.

One feature the 9001 has in common with the 88 series is the recall of settings. A USB port connects the unit to either a Mac or a PC and a utility programme is provided to store and recall 9001 settings. This is an essential tool for creative flexibility, analogue outboard can be used alongside workstations and their settings recalled whenever required.

The variety of possible applications is impressive as AMS Neve Product Marketing Manager Simon Daniels explains: "In music recording the fat bottom end can be harnessed for DI'd bass and mic'd bass drum, the twin mic pre-amps can provide a classic warm, lush stereo orchestral recording, the valve gain can smooth a track in mastering, the series valve mode can subtly distort a keyboard part to give it prominence in the mix, the gentle gain and passive EQ are perfect for sparkling vocals, the 9001 is incredibly flexible".
